Last night I actually got to watch Rachel Maddow on the day it aired (usually I watch in the mornings as I’m getting ready for the day), and one of the stories was about a reaction to Virginia’s anti-woman WTFery. Out of this hateful, hateful legislation has come a new PAC dedicated to defeat any politician that votes for these anti-woman bills: Women’s Strike Force. As they say on their site, “We are Republicans, Democrats, and Independents joining together to fight for women.“
You see, being pro-woman is not a partisan issue, as much as Republicans try to corner the market on being anti-woman. Trusting women to know their lives and their families better than anyone else (and definitely better than the government) and making sure that the State does not intrude on our lives in unnecessary ways for political reasons crosses party lines. If you are in Virginia and pro-woman, consider running. Wherever you are, think about how you can help this PAC or other ways to support candidates that support women.
If all of these horrible bills and anti-woman rhetoric leads to a bigger, even more active, comprehensive feminist movement, then the worry of these months will be worth it. Let’s get to work.
